In the October 2024 issue of Heritage magazine, the Daily Life section respectfully dedicated a portrait feature to artist Lê Trang, detailing her journey into the international art scene through her distinctive use of color – rich with Vietnamese cultural identity.
Through stories behind her most notable works, especially the paintings exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London from October 17 to 19, 2024, the article once again celebrates the traditional cultural values of Vietnam, particularly those rooted in Hue – her hometown.
“Born and raised in Hue, Trang understands that heritage is not only the ancient architecture or the traditional áo dài, but also a spiritual inheritance,” the article reflects. “From the youthful dreams of Dreamy Lady, to the gentle warmth of motherhood in The Garden of Love, and the determined nest-building of Asian Golden Weaver birds in Home on the Pond – all revolve around one invaluable concept: Home.”
Through the image of the Weaver bird and its nest – masterful architects of nature found only in Vietnam and some tropical regions – Lê Trang offers this message to her viewers: after all, Home is the most precious heritage of all.
Her paintings also express a special affection and pride for Hue. Sunset on Thanh Toan Tile Bridge is a shining example. In this work, which captures the essence of an ancient architectural structure, curator Dot Zhihan Jia commented: “It’s as though Lê Trang has painted the flow of time itself – blending heritage and modernity in perfect harmony.”
Finally, in resonance with the messages embedded in her impressionistic brushstrokes, the article’s author emphasizes: “Through her layered colors on canvas, Lê Trang interweaves stories – blending memory and present – to honor the richness of life, especially those dimensions we are slowly beginning to forget.”
