During her solo exhibition TRANG & TRANH (October 11-13, 2024) at Park Hyatt Saigon, artist Lê Trang spent three consecutive afternoons interacting with the audience in the impressive art space of the exhibition. Through this, she openly shared her journey to art and the messages she conveys through each painting, especially those depicting the image of women and mothers with very Vietnamese features and expressions.
Lê Trang said she loves the Eastern concept of “women are like water”. She loves “áo dài” and women wearing “áo dài”. Therefore, she decided to pursue this style because she wants to showcase the elegance and gentle beauty of women, especially Eastern women. “When my paintings participate in international exhibitions, many foreign audiences are impressed with the ‘áo dài’ of Vietnamese women. In my opinion, this is also a way to portray the feminine strength of women,” Lê Trang said.
Some audiences believe that the image of mothers and women taking care of children in Lê Trang’s paintings always appears ornate and elegant, different from the “busy” reality. Responding to this opinion, the female artist believes that elegance and the role of motherhood not only coexist but also elevate one another. “As a mother of three elementary school-aged children, I find that the concept of a mother taking care of children and a graceful, beautiful mother are not contradictory. For me, I always try to be neat and tidy regardless of how busy I am.”
Previously, when sharing the story behind the painting The Garden of Love (2024), artist Lê Trang also emphasized this view. “In my opinion, elegance and motherhood not only do not exclude each other but also honor each other. If you are beautiful at all times and places, you will inspire admiration and respect in your children. A very personal respect. At that time, you show that you are an image of grace, of the strength to overcome every circumstances, to master yout life.”
